Bench Marketing

Bench marketing, done the way it should be

No fabricated resumes. No submission you did not approve. And we tell you exactly how many vendor layers sit between us and the client, every time.

Why this page exists

Bench marketing has a deservedly mixed reputation, and it is worth being blunt about why. A consultant between projects has very little leverage, and some firms have built a business model on precisely that. The pattern is familiar to anyone who has been in this market more than a year:

  • Resumes quietly "enhanced" with experience the consultant never had
  • Blind submissions to the same client by three different vendors, which gets the consultant blacklisted
  • Four vendor layers between the consultant and the client, each taking a margin, none of them disclosed
  • A rate quoted before the interview that mysteriously shrinks after the offer
  • An unpaid bench, which for an H-1B employee is not a grey area — it is a violation of the employer's wage obligation

We are not going to claim the whole industry works this way. But enough of it does that a consultant asking hard questions is being sensible, not difficult. So here are our answers before you have to ask.

How we actually market you

1. We learn what you actually do

A real conversation with someone who understands the technology — not a keyword scrape. If your resume undersells you, we will tell you how to fix it. We will not rewrite it into fiction.

2. We show you the requirement first

Rate, end client, industry, duration, location, and how many vendor layers are in the chain. You decide whether to be submitted. Every single time.

3. We prepare you properly

Who you are meeting, what they will ask, what the client actually cares about. We would rather you walk in ready than submit you and hope.

4. We negotiate the rate

If a requirement cannot support what you need, we will say so instead of pressuring you into it and hoping you settle later.

5. You get paid on time

Bi-weekly direct deposit on W-2. On corp-to-corp, to the payment terms set in your agreement. Late payment is the most common complaint in this industry, and meeting our terms is a commitment, not an aspiration.

6. We stay in touch after

Most of our placements come from consultants we have worked with before, or people they sent us. That only works if we treat you well the first time.

Red flags — in any firm, including this one

If you take one thing from this page, take this list. Apply it to us as rigorously as you apply it to anyone else.

FAQ

Straight answers

What is bench marketing?

In this industry, "marketing" means a vendor representing a consultant to client requirements — putting your profile in front of end clients and prime vendors, arranging interviews, and negotiating the rate. It is what happens between contracts, or when your current employer is not finding you work.

Will you submit my resume without asking me?

Never. You approve every submission, for that specific role and that specific client, before it goes anywhere. Double submissions — where two vendors send the same consultant to the same client — get candidates blacklisted, and it is always the consultant who pays for it, not the vendor.

Will you fabricate or "enhance" my experience?

No, and we will end the conversation if you ask us to. Inflated resumes get caught in the technical screen, burn the client relationship, and follow the consultant rather than the vendor. We will happily tell you that your resume undersells you and help you fix that. We will not invent experience.

Do you have direct client relationships, or are you another layer?

Both, honestly. We hold direct relationships with a number of end clients, and for other requirements we work through a prime vendor. We will always tell you which one a given requirement is, and how many layers sit in the chain, before you decide whether to be submitted.

Will you tell me the rate before I interview?

Yes. The pay rate, the end client, the industry, the contract length, and the extension likelihood. If a requirement cannot support the rate you need, we will say so rather than pressure you into it and hope you accept later.

What do you need from me to start?

A resume and a short conversation about what you actually want — rate, location, technology, and whether you need sponsorship. That is it.

On the bench? Send us your resume.

One conversation. We will tell you honestly what your profile can command right now, and what would move it.
