Controls & Automation Engineer Role
Overview the client is seeking a hands-on, plant-level Controls & Automation Engineer to support high-volume manufacturing equipment, optimize facility reliability, and implement new automated systems. Unlike many entry-level engineering roles, this position functions as the site’s core technical authority for industrial programming and factory floor automation.
The ideal candidate effectively balances day-to-day electrical troubleshooting with long-term capital improvement and system modernization projects.
Responsibilities:
System Troubleshooting & Maintenance Diagnose, debug, and resolve sudden electrical control or automation issues to minimize production downtime. Maintain and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servos, and various sensors. Programming & Optimization Program, update, and modify control applications. Work extensively within the Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation ecosystem, including Studio 5000, ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and Factory Talk View HMI development. Automation Initiatives Design and install custom control panels. Commission new equipment and upgrade legacy relay-controlled hardware. Integrate robotics across production lines to drive efficiency. Documentation & Backups Build and maintain up-to-date electrical wiring diagrams and control schematics. Manage and secure system software backups. Hiring
Requirements:
Education Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or Engineering Technology is preferred. Equivalent options: An Associate Degree (AS) or roughly 10 years of direct equivalent field experience will be explicitly accepted.
Experience & Technical Skills: 5+ years of dedicated experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment. Heavy exposure to industrial networks (EtherNet/IP).Experience working with high-voltage systems (up to 480 VAC).
